Hello,
My name is Simone Leavell-Bruce and I am a graduate student from the School of Professional Psychology at Spalding University in Louisville, KY. I am writing to invite you to participate in my research study about the impact of race-based traumatic stress among Black Lives Matter members and other racial activists. You are eligible for this study if you are 18 years or older and have been involved with racial justice activism for at least 6 months or more.
I have spent several years of study learning about and treating the effects of race-based traumatic stress. As a future psychologist and African American woman, I am personally invested in understanding and treating the psychological and physical burden that racial assaults have on the minds and bodies of Black people. I am also interested in learning how the field of psychology can best address these negative consequences and what culturally responsive and relevant treatments might work best when working with civil rights workers such as BLM activists.
I would appreciate the involvement of you and your racial justice chapter/community members by taking time to complete surveys electronically through your phone or computer using QuestionPro. There is also a brief demographics questionnaire. This study will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. This study is completely voluntary. You can choose to be in the study and have the ability to discontinue at any point during the study. If you would like to participate, please proceed by clicking the "next" button below. If you have any questions, please email me at
[email protected] or my dissertations chair at

Thank you,
Simone Leavell-Bruce, M.A.
